Econometric theories and models will be discussed in an introductory level. It will also be discussed how to make an inference on economic theories and how to evaluate economic policies and forecasts with the applications of econometric models.

This course is designed to give students a strong foundation in the theory and practice of international finance and international financial management. This course consists of five parts, (a) basics of corporate finance, (b) foreign exchange markets and exchange rate, (c) derivative securities in foreign exchange markets including currency futures, options, swaps, etc, (d) exchange risk management for multinational corporations, (e) global capital markets and financial crisis. The course contents include analytical tools, relevant institutions, and policy problems, with primary emphasis on analysis rather than description.

This course will cover the statistical and econometric techniques needed to conduct quantitative research in finance and economics, including the estimation of time series models, forecasting of financial and economic data, and the modelling of asset price volatility. This knowledge will enable students to understand and interpret empirical findings in a range of financial markets, including reading empirical academic literature and critical assessment on econometric applications undertaken by industry practitioners. On completing this course the students will understand the central technical issues in the statistical analysis of financial data. They will be comfortable with the use of standard econometric software such as EVIEWS to undertake their own research.

This course explores the role of government on the provision of social insurances in the economy and introduces the theory of taxation. It applies tools of basic microeconomics and the concepts of general equilibrium to discuss the following questions: 1)When should the government intervene in the economy? 2)How might the government intervene? 3)What is the effect of those interventions on economic outcomes? 4)Why do governments choose to intervene in the way that they do? This course intends to extend students’ understanding of characteristics of social insurance in Korea by comparing institutional differences across counrties. This course also covers the institutional features of tax system in Korea and the effects of those tax instruments on economic agents in the economy.

Study and analysis of selected topics in labor economics with major emphasis on micro and macro-economic aspects of labor supply and demand, labor allocation, wage and employment determination, changes in the composition of labor demand, income distribution, economic problems of wage earners and of labor organizations and industrial and governmental labor relations.
