- 논문 제목: Do Large IPOs Cause Local Real Estate Booms? Evidence from Alibaba's Cross-Border Listing

- 초록: This paper examines the causal effect of a large cross-border initial public offering (IPO) on local real estate markets. Using Alibaba's 2014 IPO as a quasi-experiment and a synthetic control design, we find that real estate sales in the headquarters province rise sharply above their counterfactual path, potentially driven by a sudden increase in wealth among headquarters employee-shareholders. In contrast, consumption and savings adjust only gradually. Using prefecture-level variation, we further show that real estate prices increase more in areas closer to the headquarters, consistent with demand-driven effects. The findings suggest a capital concentration mechanism: in the Chinese context, a surge in liquidity---combined with strong confidence in property and limited investment opportunities---flows disproportionately into real estate markets, boosting localized demand and fueling booms.
