초록: I analyze the effects of social networking sites(SNS) on marriage among cohorts born between 1980 and 1992 in South Korea, using individual-level panel data from 2011 to 2024. I find that SNS use reduces men's marriage rate by 2 percentage points, with this negative effect growing over time. In contrast, no significant effect is found for women. The results are robust to various methods addressing endogeneity, including matching and instrumental variables estimation. These adverse effects are larger for Instagram and Facebook users, particularly those who comment or post frequently. Evidence that the effecets are greater among users who care about others' perceptions and are less critical of media portrayals of both sexes suggests a plausible mechanism for the negative effect on men's marriage outcomes.
