- 논문제목: Political misalignment and economic policy uncertainty: evidence from U.S. states (with Jennifer Choi and Dongwon Lee)
초록:
We examine whether political misalignment between the president and state governors increases economic policy uncertainty. When the president and governors are politically unaligned, partisan conflict can reduce the predictability of policy outcomes. Using monthly state-level data from 1985 to 2024 that combine the state-level Economic Policy Uncertainty index with gubernatorial election data, we implement a regression discontinuity-based event study to trace the dynamics of misalignment effects around elections. We find that political misalignment leads to a substantial short-term increase in economic policy uncertainty.
